MooCam support

How to set up MooCam, fix common problems, and manage your purchase.

Getting started

Install MooCam and approve the camera
  1. Open MooCam and go to its Setup Guide. If it isn’t showing, choose MooCam → Show Setup Guide….
  2. Allow camera access when MooCam asks, so it can see your real camera.
  3. Click Install in the Install the MooCam camera step. macOS asks you to approve it:
    • macOS 15 or later: open System Settings → General → Login Items & Extensions → Camera Extensions and turn on MooCam.
    • macOS 14: open System Settings → Privacy & Security, scroll down and click Allow next to the MooCam message.

The Setup Guide updates once the camera is active. No restart is needed for a first install.

Pick MooCam as the camera in your app
  • Zoom: Settings → Video → Camera → MooCam.
  • OBS: add a Video Capture Device source and choose MooCam as the device.
  • Google Meet, Microsoft Teams, FaceTime and others: choose MooCam in the app’s camera or video settings.

Keep MooCam open while you’re on camera, since it applies your filters. You can start it before or after the other app.

Troubleshooting

MooCam doesn’t show up as a camera
  1. Make sure the camera is approved. Open MooCam’s Setup Guide and check the camera step, or look in the System Settings location from Getting started.
  2. Quit and reopen the video app. Apps that were already open before you installed MooCam may not see the new camera until they restart.
  3. Check that the video app itself has camera access in System Settings → Privacy & Security → Camera.
I see a black screen or color bars
  • Color bars mean the MooCam camera isn’t receiving video from the app. Open MooCam and keep it running while you’re on camera.
  • If MooCam is open but the other app still shows black, quit and reopen that app.
  • Check that MooCam has camera access in System Settings → Privacy & Security → Camera. If it doesn’t, MooCam shows a message in its window.
  • If it’s still black, especially right after an update, restart your Mac so macOS finishes switching to the current MooCam camera.
I just updated MooCam and the camera isn’t working

The MooCam camera is a system camera extension, which macOS manages separately from the app. After an update, open MooCam once so it can hand the new camera to macOS. Usually it switches over right away. If the old camera is still in use, macOS finishes the swap at the next restart, and MooCam will tell you if that’s needed.

My video looks doubled-up or over-blurred

macOS has its own Video Effects (like Portrait mode and Center Stage) that can stack on top of MooCam’s filters. While a video app is open, open Control Center → Video Effects and turn them off for the cleanest result.

My video looks mirrored

By default MooCam doesn’t mirror your video, so other people see text the right way round, and MooCam’s preview shows exactly what other apps receive. If you prefer a mirrored picture, turn on Mirror virtual camera output in MooCam’s Settings.

Zoom, FaceTime and some other apps mirror your own self-view on purpose. If held-up text looks backwards to you, it still reads correctly for everyone else.

Trial & purchases

How does the free trial work?

Choose MooCam → Upgrade to MooCam Pro…, or click any control marked Pro, then click Start 7-Day Free Trial. Every Pro feature unlocks right away, and the Controls panel shows how many days are left.

The trial is free and isn’t a subscription, so nothing is charged when it ends. MooCam goes back to the free features and keeps your settings, regions and presets. Buy Pro anytime to get them all back.

How do I buy MooCam Pro?

MooCam Pro is a one-time in-app purchase. Open the upgrade sheet (MooCam → Upgrade to MooCam Pro…) and click Buy MooCam Pro. Apple handles the payment through the Mac App Store.

I bought Pro but it’s locked, or I’m on a new Mac

Make sure you’re signed in to the App Store with the Apple Account you bought it with. Then open MooCam → Settings, go to the MooCam Pro section and click Restore Purchases. The upgrade sheet also has a Restore Purchases button.

How do I get a refund?

Apple handles all payments, so refunds are requested from Apple. Go to reportaproblem.apple.com, sign in with your Apple Account, and find the MooCam purchase. I can’t issue refunds directly.

Hotkeys

ShortcutWhat it does
⌃⌥H (Control-Option-H)Hide Me on and off, from any app. Choose what others see (blur everything, freeze frame or a Be right back card) in Settings under When hidden, show.
⌃⌥1 – ⌃⌥9Switch to preset 1 to 9. Turn on Preset hotkeys (⌃⌥1–9) in Settings first.

Both shortcuts are MooCam Pro features and work while the trial is active. Hide Me is also in the menu bar and the Effects menu.

Uninstall

  1. Open MooCam and choose Settings → Uninstall MooCam Camera… (it’s also in the MooCam menu), then confirm. If MooCam says so, restart your Mac to finish removing the camera.
  2. Drag the MooCam app to the Trash.

Deleting the app also removes the camera extension.

Privacy

Your video is processed on your Mac and never leaves it. MooCam has no accounts, ads, analytics or tracking. See the privacy policy for details.
