MooCam / Privacy
MooCam Privacy Policy
The short version: MooCam doesn’t collect any data. Your camera video is filtered on your Mac and never leaves it. MooCam has no accounts, no ads, no analytics and no tracking. The only time MooCam talks to the internet is through Apple’s App Store system, to show prices and handle purchases.
Who we are
MooCam is made by Masood Faizi in Texas, USA. You can reach MooCam support at hello@faizi.net.
What MooCam accesses and why
- Your camera. MooCam asks macOS for camera permission so it can show you a live preview and apply privacy filters. You can turn this permission off anytime in System Settings > Privacy & Security > Camera.
- The MooCam camera. MooCam installs a camera extension, with your approval, so apps like Zoom, Google Meet, Microsoft Teams, FaceTime and OBS can pick “MooCam” as a camera. Those apps only see the filtered video. What they do with it is covered by their own privacy policies.
- Files you choose. If you pick a background photo, background video or Be right back image, MooCam can read only the file you selected. It keeps a copy in its own app storage on your Mac so it’s there next time.
Everything happens on your Mac
- MooCam processes video frame by frame in your Mac’s memory, using Apple’s built-in Vision and Metal frameworks.
- The filtered video goes from the MooCam app to the MooCam camera through memory on your Mac. It isn’t sent over the internet or to us.
- MooCam doesn’t record, save or upload your video. Each frame is gone once it’s been shown.
- MooCam doesn’t include any third-party code for analytics, advertising or crash reporting.
Network use
- Purchases. MooCam uses Apple’s StoreKit to load the MooCam Pro and free trial prices, make purchases, and check or restore what you own. StoreKit talks to Apple’s App Store servers, not to us, and Apple handles that under Apple’s privacy policy. MooCam never sees your payment details.
- Help links. The Help menu’s support and privacy items open this website in your web browser, and Contact Support opens your email app. MooCam itself doesn’t send anything.
- Apart from Apple’s App Store system, MooCam makes no network connections of its own.
Face detection (not face recognition)
To blur faces, MooCam uses Apple’s on-device face detection to find where faces are in each frame. It doesn’t figure out who anyone is, doesn’t create face templates or “faceprints,” and doesn’t compare faces against any database. Face positions exist only in memory while frames are processed, and they’re never saved or shared.
Because of this, MooCam doesn’t collect, store or share biometric identifiers, such as the records of face geometry covered by laws like the Texas Capture or Use of Biometric Identifier Act and the Illinois Biometric Information Privacy Act.
No data collection, sharing or tracking
- We don’t collect personal information through MooCam, so there’s nothing for us to sell, share or use for ads.
- MooCam doesn’t track you across apps or websites.
- Apple handles App Store downloads and payments under Apple’s privacy policy. If you choose to share analytics with app developers in your Mac’s settings, Apple may send us anonymous crash reports. You can turn that off in System Settings > Privacy & Security > Analytics & Improvements.
Settings stored on your Mac
MooCam saves your choices, such as which filters are on, blur strength, privacy regions, presets, your Be right back message, and whether you’ve finished the Setup Guide. These stay on your Mac, in MooCam’s own app storage, and are never sent anywhere. Your MooCam Pro or trial status comes from Apple’s signed App Store records, not from anything we store. To remove MooCam completely, choose “Uninstall MooCam Camera…” in the app, then delete the app.
Children
MooCam doesn’t collect personal information from anyone, including children under 13.
Changes
If MooCam ever changes how it handles data, we’ll update this page and the effective date at the top before the change takes effect.
